What our Customers Say

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

"I had AusPacSolar supply and fit a system of solar panels and battery to my home.

From the outset, they were helpful and listened intently to what sort of system I wanted.

They designed an appropriate system, helped me to arrange finance and then promptly attended to fit the panels, inverter and battery.
The team of electricians, led by Abbas were excellent.

Thorough, neat and skilled. The fit out and finish of the work was excellent. I cannot recommend AusPac Solar highly enough."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Off-Grid Solar FAQs

What is an off-grid solar system and how does it work?

An off-grid solar system is a standalone power solution that operates independently from the electricity grid. It typically includes solar panels, a battery bank, an inverter, and a backup generator to ensure a consistent energy supply.

How is off-grid different from grid-connected or hybrid systems?

Off-grid systems are entirely self-sufficient and do not rely on utility providers. Grid-connected systems supplement your power needs from the grid, while hybrid systems combine solar, batteries, and grid access for flexibility.

How much does an off-grid solar system cost?

Costs vary significantly based on energy demand, battery capacity, and system size, but for farms and rural businesses, systems can range from $30,000 to $150,000+. However, this depends on your power needs. If you need something smaller, we can assist you with a very small system that costs $2,000 to power an Off-Grid granny flat or Farm-Stay. Speak to us before making a conclusion based on price - there are many ways to skin the cat and we can point you in the right direction for your needs.

Are there government rebates or incentives available for off-grid systems?

Yes, farmers and regional businesses in Australia may be eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) or state-based incentives. Some rural development programs also offer grants.

What is the return on investment (ROI) for off-grid solar?

ROI depends on fuel cost savings (from not running diesel generators), reduced maintenance, and long-term energy independence. Payback periods are often between 5–10 years.

How do I calculate the size of the system I need?

You need to assess your daily kWh usage, peak load requirements, and seasonal variations. A proper load profile and energy audit are critical. At AusPac Solar we do this for you and provide you with all of the information and recommendations. We then provide you with different options based on your needs, giving you the power to make an educated, informed decision.

What kind of batteries are used and how long do they last?

Most systems now use lithium-ion batteries which typically last 10–15 years. Lead-acid is cheaper upfront but has a shorter lifespan and lower efficiency. AusPac Solar only sells Lithium-ion batteries for a variety of reasons, including efficiency.

What happens when there are cloudy days or during winter?

Battery storage compensates for low-sun periods. Most off-grid systems also include a backup generator (often diesel or petrol) for extended cloudy conditions or maintenance periods.

How long does it take to install an off-grid system?

From design to commissioning, installations typically take 2–6 weeks depending on the complexity and approvals. Larger systems (100kW+) can take anything from 3 – 6 months.

How much maintenance is required?

Off-grid systems are mostly low maintenance, but batteries and inverters should be checked annually. Generators require regular servicing if used frequently. AusPac Solar provides ongoing maintenance and support with all systems we install.

Can I expand my system later as my power needs grow?

Yes, systems can be designed with modularity in mind—allowing you to add panels, and batteries, or even increase inverter size as demand increases.

Can off-grid solar power irrigation systems, pumps, or cold storage?

Absolutely. Off-grid systems can be tailored to power water pumps, electric fencing, bore systems, refrigeration for produce or dairy, and even machinery sheds.

Will it still work in remote or harsh environments?

Yes, properly designed systems are robust and weather-resistant, ideal for remote cattle stations, crop farms, and outback conditions.

Can off-grid solar help me reduce reliance on diesel generators?

Yes, many rural operators switch to solar + battery setups to cut down on generator run-time, saving thousands in fuel and servicing costs.

Can I run 100% on solar and batteries, without any backup?

Technically yes, but most rural systems include a backup generator for resilience and security. 100% solar-only setups require engineering, making them cost-prohibitive for most customers. Speak to us about costs involved.

Is going off-grid sustainable and environmentally friendly?

Yes, off-grid solar reduces carbon emissions, and diesel dependency, and can operate silently—an ideal match for sustainable agriculture. Even if we're not seeing the direct effects of being environmentally friendly, the perception from a PR point of view to clients and stakeholders alike is very positive and boosts brand equity and brand perception.
